Help Center: ReadReveal Student and Teacher FAQs
Answers for students and teachers using ReadReveal — reading modes (Mic, Type, Tap), unlocking AI illustrations, joining a Reading Room, badges, Bring Your Own Book, and teacher dashboard questions.
Student Questions
How do I join a Reading Room?
Ask your teacher for the room code. Go to readreveal.app, enter the code, choose a nickname, and you're in. No email or account is needed.
How do I unlock the picture?
Read the passage aloud (Mic), type the words (Type), or tap through phrases (Tap). The AI illustration reveals more of the scene with each sentence you complete correctly.
What are badges?
Badges are awards you earn by reaching reading milestones — like finishing your first passage, hitting a perfect accuracy score, or being the first student to read a new story.
What are trading cards?
After completing a reading session above the fluency threshold, you earn a story trading card featuring your mascot in a themed costume. Cards come in Standard, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and rare Holo tiers. You can trade cards with classmates.
What is Bring Your Own Book (BYOB)?
BYOB lets you import any printed page. Photograph the page (OCR) or record yourself reading it. ReadReveal then generates illustrations, a comprehension quiz, and fluency scoring for the imported passage.
How do I look up a word?
Tap any highlighted word during reading to see a kid-friendly definition with an image. Looking up a word for the first time on a passage earns you the Silver card tier for that story.
Teacher Questions
How do I create a Reading Room?
Sign in with your Replit account, click "Create Reading Room", give it a name, and share the 6-character room code with your students. No student email addresses are required.
How do I assign passages?
From the Teacher Dashboard, go to Passages, choose a passage from the curated library or generate a new one with AI, then assign it to one or more classes. You can pin passages to the top of the student list.
How do I read fluency reports?
The Teacher Dashboard shows per-student accuracy (% words correct), rate (words correct per minute vs. Hasbrouck-Tindal norms for the grade), prosody, comprehension scores, active reading time by mode, and badge progress. You can also generate a shareable parent progress report for each student.
Is ReadReveal free for teachers?
Yes. The free tier supports a capped class size and a monthly allowance of AI image credits. Paid plans — Home Reading Room, Solo Tutor, Tutoring Center, and Institutional — raise those limits and unlock team admin permissions and advanced analytics.
How does ReadReveal protect student privacy?
ReadReveal is designed privacy-first. Students never provide an email address or real name — they join with a room code and a nickname. Guest sessions use ephemeral tokens, so no persistent identifier follows the student. AI-generated images pass through safety filters. Native iOS and Android builds add a parental gate, disabled external links, and local fonts for kids-category app store compliance (COPPA / FERPA aligned).
What reading modes are available?
Mic Mode — students read aloud; audio is transcribed and scored for accuracy, rate, and prosody. Type Mode — students listen and type along; errors are highlighted. Tap Mode — students tap through audio phrases; designed for early readers and students building phonological awareness.
Can I generate my own passages?
Yes. Paste a topic and grade level into the passage generator. ReadReveal uses Gemini 2.5 Pro to draft a passage aligned with ELA pedagogy standards (DIBELS norms, Fountas & Pinnell leveling, Webb's DOK quiz items). You can also evaluate and improve any passage with AI feedback.
