1. Introduction
ReadReveal, a product of Acclimt, is committed to protecting the privacy of all users, especially children. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our educational literacy platform.
We are designed with privacy-first principles and data minimization. Our school-authorized use is designed to support applicable student-privacy obligations, including FERPA and COPPA, while schools remain responsible for their own authorization, notice, consent, and records-management obligations.
2. Information We Collect
Teacher/Parent/Administrator Accounts: We collect email address, name, and password (securely hashed) when you create an account. We also collect organization and class information you provide.
Student Access: Students access ReadReveal through room codes and do not need to provide personal information. Guest sessions use pseudonymous, short-lived tokens. For school or tutoring-center records, a teacher may optionally add a private classroom reference to a reader nickname; this can make the record identifiable and is treated as protected student information.
Reading Activity Data: We collect reading session data including accuracy scores, reading time, and quiz responses to provide educational insights. When a teacher or school links a nickname to a student, the associated record is protected student information and is used only for authorized educational purposes.
Device and Usage Information: We automatically collect basic technical information such as device type, browser type, and general usage patterns to improve our service.
3. How We Use Information
- To provide the ReadReveal service, including AI-generated illustrations and reading progress tracking.
- To authenticate teachers, parents, and administrators.
- To generate educational analytics and reports for teachers about class performance.
- To improve our service and develop new features.
- To communicate with account holders about their accounts and our service.
- To comply with legal obligations.
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
ReadReveal is designed for use by children in grades K-8. We take special care to protect children's privacy.
Students are not required to provide an email or real name. Aliases, persistent identifiers, voice and reading records can still be personal information. Optional classroom notes are staff-only.
For school-authorized educational use, the school determines the appropriate COPPA consent or notice process. We use protected student information only to provide the authorized educational service.
Parents can contact us to review, delete, or refuse further collection of their child's information.
5. Student Privacy (FERPA)
For schools using ReadReveal, we act as a "school official" under FERPA with legitimate educational interests.
We use student education records only for authorized educational purposes.
Optional teacher notes may make a reader nickname identifiable. They are available only to authorized staff with access to that reading room, are excluded from ordinary session exports, and must not be used for advertising, profiling, or product marketing.
We do not disclose personally identifiable information from student education records without consent, except as permitted by FERPA.
Schools maintain control over student data and can request deletion at any time.
We implement appropriate security measures to protect student education records.
6. Data Sharing and Disclosure
- We do not sell personal information to third parties.
- We do not share personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
- We may share information with service providers who help us operate our platform (such as cloud hosting). These providers are contractually bound to protect data.
- We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of users.
7. Data Security
- We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption of data in transit and at rest.
- Passwords are stored using secure hashing algorithms and are never stored in plain text.
- We regularly review and update our security practices.
- We limit access to personal information to employees who need it to perform their jobs.
8. Data Retention
- We retain account information for as long as the account is active.
- Reading session data and optional teacher notes are retained only to provide longitudinal progress tracking and classroom administration. Deleting a student, class, or organization removes linked records under our deletion process.
- Guest sessions use pseudonymous identifiers. Guest reading records follow the seven-day deletion/cooldown policy, not immediate deletion when a tab or session closes.
- Upon account deletion or school request, we delete or anonymize personal information within 30 days.
9. Your Rights
- Access: You can request a copy of your personal information.
- Correction: You can update your account information at any time.
- Deletion: Signed-in teachers can initiate account deletion from Your Profile. Organization-owner requests are recorded but require ownership transfer and subscription resolution before completion so organization records and billing are not orphaned. You may also contact us for assistance.
- Opt-out: You can unsubscribe from marketing communications.

10. International Users
ReadReveal is operated from the United States. If you access our service from outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed in the US.
We comply with applicable data protection laws including GDPR for users in the European Economic Area.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via email or through the platform.
Continued use of ReadReveal after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Eligibility, privacy and purchase safeguards
Host and staff accounts are for adults aged 18 or older. New account creation and new staff access require an explicit, versioned adult eligibility and Terms acknowledgement. No full birth date is collected. Existing accounts are not silently backfilled or deleted.
Children use authorized reader access, not adult accounts. Aliases, persistent identifiers, uploads, voice, transcripts and reading records can be personal information even without a real name or retained audio. Adult signup confirmation and native AI-provider consent are not verifiable parental consent or school authorization. School authorization applies only within its lawful educational scope; homeschool parents, tutors, tutor centers and guests require a separately appropriate parent notice and consent process. Commercial tutors cannot assume a school's authority. Contact readreveal@acclimt.com for parent review, deletion or consent questions. This policy is not a compliance certificate.
A paid recurring purchase discloses the actual upfront price, currency, billing period, any initial discount and later renewal price before payment. Web renewal consent is separate and applies to that specific offer. Subscriptions renew until cancelled; cancel online in Billing before renewal, or manage native subscriptions through Apple App Store or Google Play. Card-free ReadReveal trials never auto-charge. Credit packs and other one-time purchases do not renew. Store introductory offers, if any, are separate and confirmed by the store.
Marketing email is held until the owner approves an accurate sender and valid business postal address. Commercial messages include an advertisement disclosure and anonymous unsubscribe link. Opt-out applies across ReadReveal organizations and survives account recreation. A minimized recipient hash is retained to honor suppression, separately from account data. Account, security, billing and service messages continue. Fonts are local; session replay is not enabled. Only allowlisted coarse staff milestones are forwarded to site analytics, not child reading activity or input content.
Copyright notice, counter-notice and repeat-infringer procedures are at /copyright. Designated-agent registration and matching contact details are not represented as confirmed until the owner verifies registration and approves publication. Copyright reports do not authorize disclosure of private student data.
