Reading Practice for Kids
Explore interactive reading practice for kids, with adult support, different reading modes and story artwork that reveals as readers progress.
Reading practice works best when adults understand the activity, choose appropriate material and help the reader notice what they are learning. ReadReveal offers supplemental K–8 reading practice with a visible reason to keep going: story artwork reveals as the reader progresses.
What does reading practice involve?
Reading is more than finishing a passage. A child may need support recognizing words, reading connected text comfortably, understanding vocabulary or explaining what happened. These needs are related, but a single activity or score does not tell the whole story.
Choose a short passage the child can approach with support. Listen to a small section, discuss its meaning and decide together what to practice next. If decoding remains difficult, ask the child's teacher about explicit instruction suited to their needs. An app is not a substitute for that instruction.
Different activities, different evidence
ReadReveal offers Mic, Type and Tap activities. Mic mode lets a reader practice aloud and receive available automated feedback. Type mode involves listening and typing. Tap mode offers phrase-based audio support. These activities are not interchangeable assessments: completing Tap or Type does not prove oral-reading accuracy.
The picture reveal gives the activity a visible sense of progress. Adults should still ask about the story, listen to the child and use their judgment rather than treating completion as proof of understanding.
A small example
For a fictional passage about a garden, ask the reader what they expect to find before beginning. After a short section, ask, “Why did the character move the plant?” If the reader is unsure, return to the relevant sentence together. The conversation matters more than rushing to reveal the entire picture.
Know what the tool can and cannot do
Adults can choose or assign reading material and review available progress information. ReadReveal is supplemental practice, not a complete phonics curriculum, a diagnostic assessment or a promise of improved reading scores. Automated feedback can be incomplete or mistaken.
